April 09, 2020

Anglers across the country can submit photos highlighting their love for saltwater recreational fishing and win the trip of a lifetime.

Recreational anglers displaying their catch

Bonnier Corporation and NOAA Fisheries are excited to partner to showcase the passion American anglers have for saltwater recreational fishing. Launching today is the #NOAAsFavoriteCatch photo contest, open to the millions of saltwater recreational anglers from across the country. The winning submission will receive a weekend of guided fishing in the Florida Keys sponsored by Bonnier Corporation (lodging included).

We recognize that these are trying times and anglers may not be on the water as much as you would like. Now is the time to find a photo of that special memory on the water and share it to win!

There are three ways to enter:

Through Sport Fishing

  • Through Instagram with the hashtag #NOAAsFavoriteCatch

Saltwater recreational fishing is a traditional American pastime integral to social, cultural, and economic life in coastal communities across the nation. Recreational fishing encourages millions of people to enjoy America’s great outdoors each year, while generating billions of dollars in economic activity. NOAA Fisheries is responsible for maintaining healthy marine and coastal ecosystems, including sustainable and productive fisheries. We recognize the substantial benefits associated with saltwater recreational fishing. We’re committed to pursuing a collaborative stewardship approach promoting safe public access to fishery resources and fishery sustainability.

Bonnier Corporation is the publisher of the largest saltwater fishing magazines in the country. “This is a great opportunity to collaborate with NOAA Fisheries,” says Scott Salyers, Fishing Group Publisher at Bonnier Corp. “This photo contest allows the public to share their favorite fishing memories with anglers across the country and learn more about NOAA Fisheries role in managing recreational fisheries.”

Russ Dunn, the National Policy Advisor for Recreational Fisheries, helped NOAA Fisheries navigate this unique private-public partnership. “Engaging with the saltwater recreational fishing community is a priority for NOAA Fisheries. This unique partnership with industry leading Bonnier Corporation provides anglers the chance to show why saltwater recreational fishing is important to them. We are thrilled to be working with Bonnier to highlight America’s passion for fishing.”

The contest will run for five months and close on September 1st. Submissions must include a caption, and be received by Sept. 1. Participants must be 18 years of age or older, and only non-commercial work will be accepted. Please see contest rules available at Saltwater Sportsman

or Sport Fishing.
