CBF Launches EbA Facility Call for Proposals…
Up to US$15M available

Caribbean Biodiversity Fund, August 31^st 2021 – The Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF) today announced its latest Call for Proposals (CfP), through the Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) Facility. The EbA Facility resources are composed of a 50 million USD contribution from the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety through KfW.

Through this new CfP, the CBF is requesting proposals with a focus on EbA actions that help people adapt to adverse effects of climate change, reduce disaster risk, and build resilient ecosystems and economies.  Depending on the number and quality of proposals, up to 15 million USD could be allocated under this 3rd CfP.

To date, CBF has committed a total of 17.4 million USD to the 16 projects under the EbA Facility, with another 4.6 million USD and 3 projects in the pipeline.

“The EbA Facility has used an open call for proposals approach in the two Calls to date, which has been very successful in identifying projects providing good coverage within eligible countries and in the key thematic areas covered by the Facility,” says EbA Committee Chairman, Ali Raza Rizvi.  “We have therefore decided to maintain this open call approach for this third Call rather than focus on specific geographies and themes” he added.

“While the CBF EbA Facility has maintained the open call for proposals approach, it has added two additional features to this 3^rd CfP.  The territory of Montserrat has been added as a possible beneficiary country, and United Nations agencies have been added to the list of entities which can apply for funding”, shared Dr. Joth Singh, Programme Manager of the EbA Facility. “We were able to include Cuba in the 2^nd CfP, so we are very happy that the beneficiaries and entities continue to expand”, he expressed.

The CBF EbA Facility will distribute grants from 250 thousand USD up to 2 million USD, directly to local, national, regional, and international institutions, including civil society organizations, government agencies, universities & research organizations, community-based organizations, and the United Nations agencies in eligible countries and territories. Eligible Caribbean countries and territories are Antigua and Barbuda, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.  Proposals for regional/multi-country projects are encouraged. These multi-country projects could benefit the following additional insular countries: The Bahamas, Barbados, St. Kitts, and Nevis, and Trinidad and Tobago.
