LAC Connections Program Launch Webinar: June 30, 4:00-5:30 EDT

Dear Colleagues,

The US. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, in partnership with the Academy of Sciences of Latin America, is pleased to announce theConnections to Sustain Science in Latin America program. The science community across Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) has come under increasing pressure in the recent years due to economic realities, politics, and the ongoing pandemic, and this is reflected in the decrease in support not just for research, but for the researchers themselves. Early career researchers are particularly impacted by this changing landscape and now face the daunting challenges of research and academic prospects that are far from certain.

This project seeks to address the declining support for science and support early-career researchers and graduate students in the LAC regionby providing connections to information, to peers, and by building leadership capacities. As part of the program launch, we are holding an Inaugural Webinar on June 30, 2021 from 4:00 – 5:30 pm EDTto introduce the program, as well as discuss the current status of science in the region, the challenges facing early-career researchers, and the role that private foundation support may play in helping researchers. Presentation abstract and speaker bios are available on the event webpage, and the program for the webinar is:
